Every Monday morning, campers will receive two to four writing and arts prompts sent to their email inboxes and posted on the SlamCamp NWI Eventbrite and Facebook pages. (These can be sent directly to campers or to their parents or guardians.) Some prompts will be written, and others will be video-based. Campers will then show their creativity by writing, drawing, and/or making videos in response to one or more of the prompts and submit them by Friday morning to compete for fabulous weekly prizes and for grand prizes at the end!
- Campers must be entering 6th-9th grade in fall 2020.
- Campers must live in Northwest Indiana or southwestern Michigan.
- Campers must agree to an online code of conduct and treat other campers and program leaders with respect and dignity.
Note: Date of birth and address information will be used to verify the first two requirements above, but this information will only be visible to camp administrators at Michigan City Public Library and Purdue Northwest English Department–it will be kept private and never be shared for any other reason.
Prizes will be awarded for best pieces weekly and at the end of camp. Judges will include Purdue Northwest faculty in English and Philosophy as well as local writers and artists. In addition, all campers who participate in and complete at least one activity per week will receive an achievement award at the end of camp. Awards will be in the form of gift cards emailed and/or snail mailed to campers.
Campers may also participate in person at Michigan City Public Library through the Youth Services department.
After registration, further information will be shared via email about all of the exciting ways to participate in SlamCamp 2020!
