The Michigan City Public Library has organized a local chapter of Warm Up America, open to all ages and skill levels! Warm Up America is a 501(c)3 charity made up of volunteers who knit and crochet handmade afghans and clothing for those in need. Whether they work alone or in groups with friends, family members, or co-workers, participants share a commitment to help their neighbors and serve their communities.
Interested in helping? You can do one or all of the following:
- Come to Needle Arts at the library on Thursdays at 5:30 PM. We have veteran crocheters and knitters with extra supplies to help you get started. Of course, you can work on any other handicraft project of your own, and not all items we work on are for donation.
- Use the Warm Up America guidelines to start making your own rectangles. These 7″ x9″ rectangles can be dropped off at the Circulation Desk near the entrance. When we have enough rectangles to make one or more afghans, they will be joined together to make full-size afghans.
