Interlibrary Loan

If you’re looking for a book, CD, DVD, or other item that is at least one year old, we will attempt to borrow the item from another library. Ask at the Reference Desk or call 219-873-3044 to request an interlibrary loan. There is no charge for this service.old book

  • Items generally take 10-14 days to arrive.
  • There is a limit of 2 interlibrary loan requests at a time.
  • Patrons must have a current, non-delinquent Michigan City Public Library card.
  • Not all materials are available by interlibrary loan; sometimes a lending library cannot be located.
  • Due dates are set by the lending library. Please call at least four days in advance to request renewals, which must be approved by the lending library.
  • Patrons are responsible for lost, damaged and late item(s).
  • Items that are not picked up at the Reference Department 3 days before the due date will be returned to the lending library.

Book Purchase Requests

drawing of two booksIf you’re looking for a book published within the last 12 months, we encourage you to request that the material be purchased by the library. Ask at the Reference Desk or call 219-873-3044 to submit a purchase request. The request will be forwarded to the collection manager. If the item you requested is purchased, we will contact you and it will be held for you at the Circulation Desk. There is a 50 cent fee for the hold.

  • There is a limit of 2 purchase requests at a time.
  • Patrons must have a current, non-delinquent Michigan City Public Library card.
