MICHIGAN CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY LIGHTING REPLACEMENT PROJECT

On Tuesday, July 5, 2022, the library will begin a project to replace all the overhead lighting in the building, changing them to LED fixtures. The new fixtures will feature automatic ambient lighting, centralized controls for turning on and off, and conservation of lighting in unoccupied public areas. A section above the front entrance will have specialized color lighting for seasonal themes. The expected completion date is September 16, 2022. The library will remain open during all phases of the project but reserves the right to close, if necessary.
During the project, areas under the work zone will be closed. The library will make every effort to minimize the closure time to its collections and services in any given area as work proceeds. The meeting rooms will be closed while work is done in them. Please see the library’s website and social media for updates.
This project is a continuation of the remodeling program that started in 2016. The new fixtures will be both energy efficient and aesthetically complimentary to the building while providing warmer lighting for users.
