Indiana Humanities Speaker: Eunice Trotter

May 11 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Eunice Trotter hails from a Black family with deep roots in Indiana dating back to the late 1790s. She served as the former owner of The Indianapolis Recorder, one of the oldest African American newspapers in the country. Additionally, she was the first African American editor at The Indianapolis Star and held positions at several other newspapers. With numerous reporting and writing awards under her belt, she was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame in 2017. Her debut book, “Black in Indiana,” showcases her commitment to preserving Black heritage. Currently, she serves as the director of Indiana Landmark’s Black Heritage Preservation Program, where she passionately uncovers, documents, and safeguards Black heritage across the state. Ms. Trotter’s involvement is made possible through the Advancing Racial Equity grant provided by Indiana Humanities.
