The Golfmore Hotel: A Grand Place
May 19 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
The Golfmore Hotel was located on the shores of Lake Michigan in the Michigan Shores/Grand Beach subdivisions. During a brief period from 1923-1939 the Golfmore Hotel was comparable in amenities, size and appearance to Mackinac Island’s Grand Hotel. Tom Suhs has researched the Golfmore Hotel and will tell its history through photographs, period postcards, newspaper advertisements and articles, newsreel videos, period music and promotional brochures. Highlights include its role as a popular vacation and winter sports destination and as the location of boxer training camps for pugilists Georges Carpentier, Tommy Gibbons and “The Cinderella Man” James Braddock.
