Bookmarks: Warlight and The English Patient
May 17 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Michael Ondaatje likes to begin his novels with a cinematic opening image. In The English Patient, rain begins to fall as Hana surveys her devastated domain. Warlight, set in the shadowy underworld of postwar London, has one of the most irresistible opening sentences you’re likely to read: “In 1945,” it begins, “our parents went away and left us in the care of two men who may have been criminals.” Dennis Norman will review both titles and give his take on the Canadian literary giant’s work. This program will be offered at the Westchester Township Museum in Chesterton, Thursday, May 16th at 2:00 pm.
