Summer Reading Program: Tails and Tales

Check out these free virtual zoo tours and animal web cams!

1. Smithsonian’s National Zoogiant panda

Panda Cams! Through Smithsonian’s National Zoo’s Panda Cams, you can watch giant panda Tian Tian and Mei Xiang chomp on bamboo and tumble in the grass. Other animal cams include the Lion Cam, Elephant Cam, Black-footed Ferret Cam, and Naked Mole-rat Cam. Check out the Animal Cam bingo cards and activities, which encourage students to look closely and think deeply about animal behavior and habitats.


2. Cincinnati Zoo Virtual Tourkangaroos at Cincinnati zoo

The website for the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden includes dozens of Home Safari videos featuring the zoo’s animals. Be sure to check out the home activities for kids and families. 


3. San Diego Zoo

The San Diego Zoo has live broadcasts through 10 webcams for you to watch animals, including koalas, penguins, and tigers.

5. Georgia Aquarium Virtual Tour

Watch live stream web cams of creatures throughout the aquarium, including the Beluga whale, California sea lion, sea otters, piranhas, and more.

 


6. New England Aquarium Virtual Tourpenguins

Ready to get wet? By now you’ve probably seen the adorable videos of penguins exploring empty aquariums as zookeepers take them around the “visit” the other animals. You’ll enjoy the digital programs offered by the New England Aquarium in Boston. You can see their virtual visit videos on their website, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, or check out their live stream web cams of their giant ocean tank and penguin colony. You can also find a wealth of educational activities to try at home. These are perfect for families with kids or people who are just kids at heart.


7. The Alaska Zoobears playing in snow

Check out the Alaska Zoo’s polar bear cam and the videos on their YouTube channel. You can find more activities in the zoo’s online Learning Yurt.
